More of the Same?
Walking through the doors of The Orenda Center of Wellness, I carried the weight of my past. I had just been released from jail, and while I knew I needed help, I had no idea what to expect. Would I be judged? Just another number? Would this place actually help me change?
Looking back now, I can say with certainty: The Orenda Center of Wellness was exactly what I needed.
A New Beginning
Coming straight out of jail, I was used to an environment of strict rules, survival mode, and little room for real healing. But The Orenda Center was different. From day one, I was met with genuine compassion. The employees weren’t just doing their jobs—they actually cared. They saw me as a person, not just an addict or an ex-inmate. That alone made a huge impact.
The first few days were tough. Detoxing from the chaotic lifestyle I had been living was no joke. But the staff was there, supporting me through it, making sure I stayed on track without feeling alone in the process.
The Power of Groups
One of the most powerful aspects of my time at The Orenda Center was the group sessions. I had been to meetings before, but something about these groups was different. Maybe it was the way everyone showed up raw and honest, or maybe it was the fact that the facilitators truly understood addiction—not just from textbooks but from real-life experience.
These sessions helped me realize I wasn’t alone. I wasn’t broken beyond repair. I wasn’t a lost cause. Hearing others share their struggles and victories gave me hope. Slowly, I started opening up, peeling back the layers of shame, guilt, and fear that had been weighing me down for years.
The People Who Made a Difference
I can’t talk about my experience without mentioning the staff and counselors who played such a huge role in my recovery. The staff didn’t just recite scripted advice—they listened. Offered real support, the kind that made me believe in myself again. They pushed me when I needed pushing and held space for me when I needed to process.
Whether it was a counselor sitting with me through a tough moment, a fellow client reminding me why I started this journey, or a staff member giving me encouragement, every single person at The Orenda Center helped shape my path toward recovery.
Finding Myself Again
Recovery isn’t just about getting clean—it’s about finding yourself again. The Orenda Center helped me do that. Through therapy, groups, and self-reflection, I started to see who I was beyond my addiction. I found my strength. I found my voice.
Leaving the center was bittersweet. I was excited to start fresh but knew I’d miss the support and structure. But thanks to everything I learned there, I walked out the door with confidence, knowing I had the tools to keep going. I now am employed by the same company that helped save my life
Grateful, Hopeful, and Moving Forward
If there’s one thing I want anyone reading this to take away, it’s this: Recovery is possible. No matter how low you’ve fallen, no matter how hopeless things seem, there’s a way out. The Orenda Center of Wellness gave me that second chance, and I’ll always be grateful.
To anyone struggling, know this: You are not alone. You are worth saving. And there is always hope.
Sincerely,
Mike Mann
